Description
An A-2546B industrial crimper for MC4 connectors in 2.5, 4 and 6 mm². Its leverage develops 1.2 metric tonnes at the die for modest hand effort.
Pressure is what makes contact quality. A proper crimp closes the gaps between strands and pin: the copper becomes one continuous mass, contact resistance drops to a few milliohms and the connector stops heating. A soft crimp leaves air, the air oxidises, resistance climbs and the connector eventually melts.
The difference from an economy tool is felt after twenty connectors. On a full array, or for an installer doing several a week, hand fatigue is the real buying criterion. The head comes apart to change dies.
