3-Pole DC Surge Protector

An SUP2-PV three-pole photovoltaic surge protector, rated for strings up to 1500 volts DC and mounted on DIN rail inside a combiner box. It diverts lightning-induced surges to ground before they reach the controller or inverter.

In Quebec the real risk is almost never a direct strike: it is the storm a few hundred metres away inducing a spike in the long DC runs between the array and the building. A surge protector at the combiner entry costs a fraction of an inverter and swaps out in two minutes.

The cartridges are consumables. Each module carries a window that turns red once it has absorbed its share, and the included remote monitoring contact lets you report that to a controller or an indicator lamp. Check the windows at every annual service: a spent surge protector protects exactly as much as no surge protector at all.
