Description
An FDS-32 ceramic fuse rated 15 amps and 1000 volts DC. It fits a DIN-rail fuse holder or an inline MC4 holder at the head of each panel string.
A DC fuse is nothing like a household fuse. In direct current the arc does not extinguish itself at the zero crossing the way it does sixty times a second in AC: the ceramic body and its sand filling have to smother it. That is why a "250 V AC" fuse has no place in a photovoltaic circuit, even at low voltage.
The 15 A rating suits a string whose short-circuit current stays well below it, typically one or two residential modules. The usual rule: pick a fuse above the module’s short-circuit current and below the maximum reverse current printed on its label.
