Description
MC4 is the unavoidable photovoltaic standard, but not every connector sold under that name is equal. These are TÜV-certified with silver-plated copper contacts, double O-rings and a UV-resistant PPO body.
The IP68 rating means prolonged immersion without ingress, which is exactly the reality of a connector buried under 80 cm of melting snow in March. A cheap single-seal connector lets water in, electrolysis attacks the contact, and the string progressively loses output.
The pair covers one cable end. Count two pairs per panel added to a string, and always keep a few spare pairs: a failed crimp cannot be recovered and climbing back down from the roof for one is frustrating.
