Description

As soon as an installation exceeds two parallel strings, a combiner box becomes mandatory: each string must be individually protected, otherwise a fault on one can let the current of the other five flow backwards into it.

This IP65 combiner accepts six strings with a fuse holder per polarity, a type 2 DC surge protector to shield the inverter from atmospheric surges, and an output disconnect. Everything arrives pre-assembled and labelled: connect the MC4 inputs, the output and the ground, and you are done.

Lightning protection deserves a mention. A photovoltaic array is a large conductive loop on a roof: even without a direct strike, lightning two hundred metres away induces a surge capable of destroying a $4,000 inverter. The surge protector costs a fraction of that.

The type 2 module clamps lightning-induced surges before they reach the inverter. Its cartridge is replaceable and its status visible on an indicator.

Per-string protection

Outdoor-rated enclosure
